Wingfield Railway Station is a historic railway station in Derbyshire, England, that was built in 1839-40 by the North Midland Railway (NMR). It is the only surviving original station on the NMR line between Derby and Leeds, and the only surviving example of the work of architect Francis Thompson. The station served a rural area of Derbyshire until it closed in 1967. The station building and forecourt are Grade II* listed, meaning they are of exceptional interest and national importance.
The station building had been neglected and deteriorated for many years, until it was compulsorily purchased by Amber Valley Borough Council in 2019. The council transferred the ownership to the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust (DHBT), which received funding from Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore and conserve the building.
The restoration work was completed in October 2023, and the building is now used as office space and for exhibitions and events. The project aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the heritage of Wingfield Station and the NMR line, and to act as a catalyst for further projects to combat heritage at risk in Derbyshire.
